E-Portfolio Questions:

a. What have you learned about the arts from participating in this class?

How to look at all kinds of art in a whole different way. Instead of calculating the meaning from the name of the piece, the author's orgin, and what inspiration they drew to create the piece, you actually feel the piece. You draw inspiration from it, knowing nothing about the piece you know everything that you would ever need to know about the piece. I can find the deepest meaning of the piece unintentionally, I unconciously look for deeper meaning. Things that were bland or boring for me, i look at them again and they are new to me. Different from what they were before, things i did not notice at first are thrust out into the open. It did not seem like a good skill to learn at the beginning of of the term, but the more that I have used it the more that I have come to appreciate this new found skill. It has helped me appreciate art in a whole new perspective, and I love it.

b. What did you learn about the communicative potential (the feeling or meaning) of the arts by viewing a live performance?

The power that comes from a live performance, the music, the performers, everything is on a grander scale. You can feel the movements, the music travels through your skin and vibrates your bones. Bringing a whole new meaning to the music in you. The performers give it there all during the show, their blood sweat and tears show in every thing that they do. It's a miracle that they can do that continuously every night. Having that much passion for what they do. Everything is greater in a performance, the feeling is more powerful, and the meaning is more clear, and it is stronger. It is easier to pick out the meaning and feelings when it is live because you are immersed into the subject, instead of just blindly watching it on a television sscreen.
