Exploring Art reflection;
Calligraphy Assignment: The project that I chose to do was the calligraphy assignment. The goal of this assignment was to correctly learn how to use Black Letter, an old style of writing, and to pick a favorite quote and write it using Black Letter. The quote that I used for this assignment was “It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.” This quote was used by Batman in the movie Batman Begins, the reason why I love this quote is because it means that we create who we are, not because of who we are. This quote has a different meaning to everyone, and that is also why I love it. When I was first learning to write the Black Letter it caught me so off guard, I was so frustrated, I kept smearing the ink and my letters were never like the ones on the example page. But I just kept working at the letters and finally I was proud of myself for working hard and you can see the improvement in my project. I think my favorite part of the project was when I was done with the Black Letter and working on water coloring Batman into the background, I have never water colored people ever and it looks great. I might have hated the project when we first started but the end result was well worth it. This project showed me that if you work on something with all your heart it will come out better than you expect.
